72" Avro York

All done and dusted. The new Avro York should be available in the next couple of weeks, just in case your current winter build is nearing completion. Full pack price will be around the £180 mark. keep an eye out for a release up-date

Anyone who is familiar with the Avro Lancaster will see quite a few similarities in the Avro York. Not surprising really as it shared the shame wing, engines, nacelles, tail and fins with its famous older brother. The only difference is an extra fin and the rather boxy fuselage, which turned what was a Lancaster in to commercial post WW2 airliner.

As you can see the basic airframe is now complete and is just awaiting the installation of the radio gear, motors and controllers and undercarriage. The specification is very close to the 72" Lancaster (as you would expect) and the launch date is planned for late summer. The prototype has flown. Tony just needs to finish her off.

The exhibition cost £5M and the main benefactor is Lord Ashcroft.
It opened to the public on 11th November 2010 and will last 10 years.
The Lanc is the visual centre piece for the VC awarded to sgt Norman Jackson who single handedly crawled out on the wing of his flying Lancaster to put out an engine fire .......
